It is the size the whole hobby designs for: commissioned art, free templates, and replacement covers all assume 150 cm. It hugs well without taking over the bed.
Buying a gift or on a budget?
34 × 100 and 40 × 120 keep the full custom print at a lower price and fit smaller spaces. Great first pillow for a teen's room or a desk-nap companion.
Want the life-size hug?
60 × 170 and 60 × 180 are as tall as a real person. Make sure your art is at least 2800 px wide, or the print goes soft at this scale. The maker checks this for you.
Dakimakura sizes, answered
What is the standard dakimakura size?
50 × 150 cm (about 20 × 59 inches). It is the size dakimakura artists design for by default, and the size most inserts and replacement covers assume. If someone says “body pillow size” without qualifying it, they usually mean 150 cm.
What size dakimakura should I get?
For a first pillow, 50 × 150 cm is the safe pick: standard art proportions, comfortable to hug, fits a normal bed. Go 34 × 100 or 40 × 120 for a budget or space-saving option, and 60 × 170 or 60 × 180 if you want something as tall as you are.
How big does my art need to be?
Aim for about 120 DPI at print size: roughly 2400 × 7100 px for a 50 × 150 cm pillow, and 2800 × 8500 px for the largest size. Do the covers come with an insert?

Are dakimakura sizes width × height or height × width?
Sizes are written width × length: a 50 × 150 cm pillow is 50 cm wide and 150 cm tall. Art is drawn portrait, one character per side, so your file should be taller than it is wide, in about a 1:3 ratio.
