What resolution do I need for a dakimakura?
Aim for 120 DPI or more at print size: roughly 2400 × 7100 px for the popular 50 × 150 cm pillow, up to 2800 × 8500 px for the largest 60 × 180 cm. The checker above grades your file against every size at once, and the size guide lists the targets side by side.
Does the DPI number saved in my file matter?
No. The DPI value stored in a PNG or JPG is just metadata; what matters is pixel dimensions. A 2400 × 7100 px file prints identically whether its metadata says 72 or 300 DPI. That is why the checker only asks for the image, not its settings.
Is 300 DPI required for printing?
300 DPI is the ideal for close-up viewing, but a body pillow is seen at arm's length on soft fabric, so 120 DPI at print size already looks crisp. Below 80 DPI, lines visibly soften and I will flag the file during design review.
My art fails every size. What now?
First, ask the artist for the original export; artwork is usually created much larger than the version shared online, and a re-export costs nothing. If no larger file exists, a smaller pillow size may pass, or the commission service can redraw the design at full print resolution. AI upscaling is a last resort: it can smooth a near-miss but invents detail on a big gap.
What file format should I upload?
PNG or JPG. PNG is best for flat-color anime-style art since it has no compression artifacts; JPG at high quality is fine for painterly work. The art prep guide covers formats, margins, and seam-safe zones in detail.
